6 AP All Americans - Wow

December 15th, 2009

Alabama has 6 first-team all Americans - the most of any team in the nation.

1st Teamers were: Mark Ingram, Rolando McClain, Terrence Cody, Javier Arenas, Mike Johnson and Leigh Tiffin.

Safety, Mark Barron, made the 3rd Team.

I personally LOVE this because it continues to prove Coach Saban’s point that if players buy in to the team or rather, completely sell out to the team, that the honors will come.

Congrats guys.

Write CBS & The Late Show an Email

Here’s the email address listed on their website: cbsmailbag@aol.com

My letter went something like this:

To Whom It May Concern:

I am very disappointed to hear that CBS & The Late Show with David Letterman has bumped Mark Ingram, 2009’s Heisman Trophy winner, from the show.

This young man won college football’s most prestegious award and has set an excellent example for young people by his actions and what he has been able to achieve through an adverse situation.  Not to mention that he gave one of the most heartfelt Heisman acceptance speeches in recent history.

That you would cancel on this young man, and cancel on him at such a late date, is a true shame and is certainly CBS and The Late Show’s loss.

What a great moment for Mark Ingram and for Alabama Football.

Tonight Mark Ingram became the 75th Heisman Trophy winner, and The University of Alabama’s first.

With tears streaming down his face, he accepted the award and gave credit to his God, his family, his teammates, his coaches and the University faculty.

This is definitely worth watching…

Stiffarmtrophy.com Projects Mark Ingram as Heisman Winner

December 12th, 2009

They’ve projected the past 7 years correctly - every year since they’ve been in existence.

And although they say that they would like to call this year “too close to call” - they are projecting Mark Ingram.

Beware the Bandwagon

December 12th, 2009

We’ve all had fun this week looking back at the SEC Championship game.  And our team still has a few more days to savor what they’ve accomplished so far - with the Heisman ceremony coming on Saturday.

But I think that it’s time to turn our attention to Texas.

I just read the Sports Illustrated story on the SEC Championship from the December 14th issue.  And while it jabs at Alabama (specifically the fans), it also made me laugh out loud a few times.  But the biggest thing I noticed is that even in this article, the Texas bulletin board material continues to grow.

The media is already trying to tell Texas that they aren’t getting the respect they deserve.  In fact, it started with Kirk Herbstreit the night of the SEC Championship and Big-12 Championship games.

Do they want to give Texas a psychological advantage?  Why do they seem to want to set Alabama up?

I’m starting to see why Coach Saban is so media-wary.

Wasn’t it just ONE WEEK ago that no one thought that Alabama could pull off a victory in the SEC Championship game?

Wasn’t it just ONE WEEK ago that Greg McElroy was maligned on radio talk shows (at least the ones in Atlanta) as a possible “weak link” on the Alabama team?  That the O Line was a “potential weakness” on the Alabama team?  That Mark Ingram “wouldn’t get through the Florida defense”?

It seems that the bandwagon can hitch up to a new wagon fairly quickly.  Because this week, all of those negatives have never been more positive.  The praise and “media-love” is at highs that we as fans haven’t seen since, oh, I’d say 1992.

Those that were nay-sayers just one week before are now preachin’ the gospel of Bama.  The talking heads that had been talking out of one side of their mouth, swapped over to the other side in an instant.

How will Coach Saban combat the bandwagon?

If Rolondo McClain’s comments tell us anything, Coach Saban has already begun to battle those messages.  In a Birmingham News blog post, McClain was quoted as saying, ”We’re not done.  We still know what we have to do.  By no means are we satisfied yet.  Until we win the national championship, we’re still hungry. Right now, everybody loves us.  We just won the SEC championship.  But if we lose to Texas, everybody will be off the bandwagon.  Everybody will hate us again.  We’ve just got to keep pushing.  We know what we have to do.”

Smart guy.  Let’s hope that he is in the ears of his teammates telling them the same thing.

Coach Saban Finalist (again) for Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year

December 12th, 2009

Coach Saban won this award last year - let’s help him win again.

Fans can vote for the finalists online at www.CoachoftheYear.com from Dec. 15-29. The fan vote makes up 20 percent of the vote.

This also helps local charities and the University because the winner of the 2009 Liberty Mutual award will receive a $50,000 contribution to the charity of his choice, plus a $20,000 contribution to the school’s alumni association for student scholarships and activities.

You gotta watch this…
