Cool Site that Projects Heisman

This site projects the Heisman winner by votes that voters disclose.  They’ve been right every year since the site started in 2002.

Right now they project Mark Ingram!  But it changes all week as votes continue to be disclosed.

Could be cool to keep an eye on during the week.

Congrats Kirby Smart!

Greg McElroy and Jim McElwain

I had to laugh when I heard yesterday that Greg McElroy now has a new nickname - given to him by his team mates:

Vanilla Vick

And hey - with that tiptoe down the sidelines and scramble for the almost touchdown - who can blame them for bestowing that nickname.

I love it.  And I bet he does too.

Settling in Post-SEC

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

So, I think I’ve finally settled back into the “real world” post-SEC weekend.

And that’s really unfortunate.

Because this weekend was a lot of fun.

I said after the Virginia Tech game that this team had heart.  And it proved that in true fashion on Saturday night.  Every player on Alabama’s team played with heart.  They played the game of the season thus far.

And the best thing for a fan watching the game - was that they beat Florida in every way possible in the Georgia Dome on Saturday night.

After enduring gator chomps, gator baits, go gators and all of the obnoxious gator garbage that one could have thrown at another team and its fanbase - both last year and this year before the game - it was sweet to see this Alabama team finish what it started a year ago.

But wait - we’re not finished, are we?

That’s the great thing about Coach Saban and this team.  They haven’t been satisfied all year.  Their mantra has been - to improve, to get better, to finish each game.  Their goals didn’t end with the SEC Championship - this team has said that its goal all year was to get to the National Championship.  And win.

And you have to think that all things happen for a reason.

Would this team this year have been able to accomplish all it set out to do if it hadn’t had such a specific goal?

To finish in the SEC Championship.

To finish in their bowl game.

Both goals that were left undone last year and that left a bitter taste in the mouths of everyone involved with the Alabama program.

So, let’s all enjoy this win but let’s get ready for the big one.

Because it will be here in less than a month now, and nothing would make me happier than to see this team - that has given so many fans so much to be happy about this season - finish the year with another great win.

6:30 am Gameday!

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Aah - the quiet.  Everyone is still sleeping here in Atlanta - at least, everyone at our house.

My husband asked me last night, “You haven’t posted anything in a few days, Football Chick?  What’s up with that?  This is the biggest game of the year!”

And there are a plethora of reasons - the main one being this:

I have read article after article this week about this game.  Articles about matchups.  Articles about intangibles.  Articles about coaches and players and who wants it more.

And I just don’t know what to add.  Honestly.

We all know what’s at stake here.

You can look at this matchup from a million different ways and it’d still be hard to get a good grip on the outcome.  Both teams are powerful, well coached, very very good football teams.

I just believe, and I’ve said all season, that our Alabama team has heart, they are driven, they are tough.  And we all know that they are well coached.  And I really, really, really hope that they win today.  Because they’ve given us all one of the greatest, most exciting seasons that I’ve seen in a long time.

Some little bits of randomness:

We went down to the motorhome world yesterday and there are a lot of folks down there already.  We also went to the fanfare and saw Paul Finebaum, saw the National Championship Trophy, got chomped at by a 5 year old, and got called “gator bait” by a woman wearing old school sweatpants.  We just smiled at everyone and minded our own business for the most part.

It’s going to be a good, fun, crazy atmosphere!

And as for 4pm today - I am excited about this game.  I am nervous.  I am excited.  Did I say I was nervous yet?

I Actually Like Something Paul Finebaum Said…

It really is good.

And I know Finebaum is good at what he does, he just gets under my skin sometimes.  This article makes up for some of that - so thanks Finebaum for a really great read with some insight into what Coach Saban may have felt like last year.
